Neijing Classical Acupuncture:
technical needling and diagnostics

Three Day In Attendance Training Course

@ Miller's Way, London

The ability to truly engage and connect with the appropriate and required needling method is no easy feat in Chinese medicine. Knowing how to properly insert the needle, the type of needle needed, the distinct depth and necessary manipulation of that needle, is something that is lacking from so many education facilities in this profession.
This 3 day seminar will focus on the unique and rarely practiced Jingmai (channel) diagnostics and needling techniques of the Huangdi Neijing Lingshu.

Clear instruction on pulse and channel palpation, on-table assessments, and the tools required to appropriately and skillfully needle as the classics intended will be discussed. Each student will be taken through the mechanism behind needling, and will have immediately applicable and versatile skills that will translate easily into their existing studies and practice. The goal of this seminar is to develop the skill of being a needle technician in the traditional manner.

Day One: Jingmai Diagnostics and Tools of the Trade

Day one will focus on one of the most frequently discussed diagnostic techniques in the Huangdi Neijing: Renying / Cunkou pulse diagnosis. Here the core foundation of this method will be laid out clearly for students as well as practical demonstration, application, and in-house practice. Renying / Cunkou is a very unique and precise Jingmai / Channel diagnostic skill set that allows for clear-cut understanding of pathological location and direction. We will also briefly discuss the various tools used in classical Neijing needling and the principle behind them that will allow comprehension of modern day application.

Day Two: Lingshu Guanzhen - The Needling Techniques

Day Two will focus on introducing needling techniques of the Lingshu Jing, namely the Guanzhen chapter (Lingshu 7). Here we will look into the method, the language used, and most importantly we will reverse engineer the pathology of each technique. These techniques will be a mixture of common methods and very advanced techniques (such as Miuci misleading needling, and Cuici, fire needling). There will be time for demonstration, practice, and discussion. The primary focus of this day will be the nine transformation techniques.

Day Three: Lingshu Guanzhen - The Needling Techniques cont...

Day Three will continue the needling method, practice, and discussion with a focus on the 12 channel techniques and 5 seasonal / directional methods that pertain to the tissue layers of each phase. If time permits, case study analysis will be included.

Note:

  1. This is a practical seminar, so please come prepared to needle and be needled. All required steps will be taken to ensure people are comfortable and the environment is safe and professional. Any issues with the above please contact the organiser or presenter to discuss options, thank you.

David White

As a teenager, David White became enthralled with the philosophy, martial arts, and medicine of China. His first introduction to Chinese medicine came through his qigong and gongfu teacher, where studies in the foundations of the classics became part of his weekly routine. By age 17, after completing high school, David enrolled in the four year degree at the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and eventually, at 21, studied and practiced in the People's Republic of China. Upon returning he was employed as senior lecturer for SITCM, running their acupuncture program for the last two decades. Through great fortune he met his primary teacher, Dr. Tai, where he spent years in his clinic observing, practicing, and studying classical medicine of the Huangdi Neiijing. Great emphasis was placed on clinical skills, needling ability, and diagnostics. In 2012 David started the Institute of Neijing Research (INR), the first dedicated teaching institute to the sole study of the Huangdi Neijing and its associated culture, with a distinct focus on clinical application of the Lingshu Jing. David teaches all over the world as well as runs theoretical classes online. He operates a private practice in Sydney, Australia.
